Attendance

Why Attendance is Important!

Being in school every day helps your child learn, build good habits, and stay on track to graduate. Missing just 2 days a month can make it harder to keep up — especially with reading. Students who attend regularly do better in school and in life.

Every day counts. When students miss school:

  • They fall behind

  • It slows learning for the whole class

  • They are more likely to struggle later

What is “regular attendance”?

Students should be at school at least 171 days out of the 180-day year — that’s no more than 9 absences.

Support Your Child’s Attendance

Grades K–5 Tips:

  • Set regular bedtimes and routines

  • Pack backpacks and clothes the night before

  • Only stay home for real illness — not minor complaints

  • Avoid appointments and trips during school

  • Talk to school staff if your child feels anxious

Grades 6–12 Tips:

  • Make daily attendance the expectation

  • Keep regular sleep and homework routines

  • Ask your child how they feel about classes and friends

  • Stay in touch with teachers and check attendance

  • Encourage after-school activities

  • Ask for help if school feels like a struggle
